1965 Triumph Thruxton Bonneville

1965 Triumph Thruxton Bonneville

The 2nd official factory built Triumph Bonneville to carry the name Thruxton. Built in November 1964, shortly after the very first Earls Court show bike (DU15352). The second of four prototypes built as show bikes between November 1964 and May 1965 before the main batch of 52 bikes built later in 1965.

Built to full 1964 Thruxton race specification, with only some small differences to the main batch as some parts were not ready. This machine was restored and owned for many years by renowned Thruxton Expert Hugh Dickson, who complied the Thruxton register and the engine was rebuilt by George Hopwood. It is in showroom condition with all the Thruxton parts you would expect; close ratio gearbox, race seat, Thruxton silencers, cutdown Monobloc carburettors with central float bowl, E3134 cams, racing tappets, high compression pistons etc. This machine runs perfectly and is in almost immaculate condition. When first sold you could purchase a “Thruxton” and take it straight from the showroom to race track. A very nearly perfect tribute to its Thruxton name. The 1965 Thruxton Bonneville is the reason the modern Triumph company still use the name on their “limited” special editions even today.

GBH 525C, Chassis and frame number DU16910 is well documented in Claudio Sintich’s book, “Thruxton Bonneville” and comes with a fair amount of paperwork. She is not just a wonderful piece of history to look at but is an excellent runner and very useable. She was not built just to sit on display behind a glass case, she should be used!

This Thruxton has just happily ridden to Goodwood and back and participated in the daily parade procession at the Goodwood Revival. It is an utter joy to ride and stare at. A piece of significant motorcycle history.

As with all of our vehicles, we have a digital folder available on request containing more images, walkaround videos, pictures of the underside and scans of the service history. The car can be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom
