1967 Austin-Healey 3000 MkIII

There are plenty of beautiful Austin-Healey 3000s. Far fewer have been developed with this much thought, used properly and documented so thoroughly.

This is an original right-hand-drive example, first registered in Leeds on 11th April 1967. It remained in the UK until March 1985, when it was exported to Germany. From that point onwards, its history has been recorded in remarkable detail, resulting in one of the most comprehensive files we have seen with a car of this age.

More importantly, this is not simply a well-presented Healey. Over the years it has been carefully developed into a properly sorted fast-road car, with the focus firmly on making it better to drive without taking away the character of the original.

Under the bonnet, the straight-six is fitted with an upgraded intake manifold and Weber carburettors. These are paired with a side-exit exhaust, giving the car a soundtrack to match its looks.

The paperwork records three engine rebuilds during the car’s life. The most recent and most comprehensive was completed in Germany in 2012 at a documented cost of €9,051.75. The work included six new pistons, valves and guides, bearings, a new oil pump and water pump, machining of the crankshaft, boring and honing of the block, cylinder-head work and much more besides.

The suspension has also been upgraded and properly set up for fast-road use. The result is, quite simply, the best-driving Healey 3000 we have ever had. It feels tight, responsive and far more composed than a standard car, while still retaining everything that makes a big Healey so enjoyable.

The combination of the straight-six, Webers and side-exit exhaust is fantastic. It pulls strongly, sounds sensational and feels like a car that has been developed by people who genuinely wanted to drive it rather than simply look at it.

In 2025, the car received another major service, including the fitment of a complete three-piece clutch. It then undertook a substantial tour from Germany to Ireland, which is perhaps the best possible endorsement of both the work carried out and the car’s usability.

Cosmetically, it is an older restoration but remains in magnificent condition. The paintwork presents beautifully, while the chrome, wheels and exterior trim are all excellent. An upgraded sound system has also been fitted, adding a useful modern touch for longer journeys without looking out of place.

Accompanying the car is an enormous history file containing decades of invoices, servicing records and documentation. It charts not only the car’s life, but the continued maintenance and development that have made it what it is today.

This is not a freshly restored Healey that has been built to sit in a garage. It is a beautifully presented, exceptionally well-documented and properly developed Austin-Healey 3000 MkIII that has been built to use.
