2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale S Tricolore

Ducati has always understood how to make a superbike look special. With the 1199 Panigale S Tricolore, it had rather a lot of engineering to show off beneath the paintwork, too.

Introduced for 2012, the 1199 marked a major step forward for Ducati. Its new Superquadro twin-cylinder engine formed an integral part of a compact monocoque chassis, with Ducati quoting 195hp in standard form. The Tricolore sat at the top of the launch range, wearing the red, white and green of the Italian flag. A suitably dramatic introduction to the Panigale name.

This 2012 example pairs that distinctive livery with black Marchesini wheels, red rim detailing and the gold of its Öhlins suspension. The slim tail, exposed rear wheel and neatly tucked-away exhaust give it a wonderfully purposeful profile. More than a decade on, the proportions still look superb.

There is plenty to appreciate up close. It is fitted with Termignoni titanium silencers, Brembo front brake calipers, a carbon-fibre front mudguard and carbon-fibre rear hugger. The single-sided swingarm leaves the rear wheel on full display, while the Tricolore detailing continues across the nose and tail.

The model combined selectable riding modes with traction control, engine-braking control, a quickshifter and electronically adjustable suspension, all accessed through a colour TFT display. There is serious substance behind the styling.

This particular bike also has a lengthy service record, with 13 recorded visits from August 2012 to May 2026. Its first three services were carried out by Metropolis Motorcycles, with every subsequent entry recorded at Pro Twins, beginning in June 2015.

For us, the appeal is easy to understand: the first generation of Panigale, in its striking Tricolore colours, with Öhlins suspension, Termignoni silencers and a service record stretching back to its first year. A very handsome Ducati with plenty of detail to reward a closer look.
