1989 Range Rover Classic 3.5 EFI Vogue - Auto

This 1989 Range Rover Classic Vogue SE is a great example of the iconic British 4x4, and which is fresh from a strip and repaint. Under the bonnet sits the 3.5-litre Rover V8, sending around 165bhp to all four wheels via a four-speed ZF automatic transmission. The car has had three owners from new and the odometer reads 85,148 miles.

The car has recently been stripped with any rust removed and repainted in the handsome hue of Cypress Green metallic, with fresh and correctly positioned coach lines, retextured plastics and trims, door shuts, hinges, decals, with wheels and callipers also being refurbished.

This Range Rover Classic is finished in the alluring combination of Cypress Green metallic over a brown leather interior featuring handsome burr wood dashboard and door card inlays. A rare crossover model with pleated leather, better sound system, and deeper door cards which was only in production for 6 months. It rides on a set of refurbished body-coloured 16-inch three-spoke alloy wheels, housing repainted black callipers and shod in BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tyres.

Factory equipment includes air conditioning, central locking, a heated rear screen, electric windows, electrically adjustable door mirrors, and a dash-mounted clock. It has also had both electric seat controls refurbished and refitted. This example also benefits from the fitment of an aftermarket Sony sound system with Bluetooth connectivity. It is sold with the owner’s handbook, service booklet, a raft of invoices including those for the most recent bodywork, the original dog guard, and the spare wheel (also refurbished) and tool kit.

The Cypress Green metallic paintwork is in perfect condition, reflective of its recent strip down and respray. Inside, the cabin presents well, with light creasing but no discoloration or cracking on the leather seats and slight discolouration to the rearmost wood centre console trim, and general signs of use. The headlining is original and in very good order, and that the car has been used predominantly with seat covers from new. The seller comments it has none of the usual battery drains and fires up at the flick of a key in even the coldest of weather.

The most recent MOT test took place on 12 December 2022 at 85,103 miles, resulting in a first-time pass with no advisories. Previous issues highlighted on the MOT such as slight play and leak from steering box have been dealt with and a brand new box fitted. The latest service was carried out in December 2022 by Charlesworth Classics. The work consisted of an engine oil and oil filter change, along with the replacement of the rear body mounts, as well as an engine tune and a wax coating to the underside.

Prior to this, the car was serviced in February 2022 which included an engine oil and oil filter change, and replacement of the oil pressure switch, and the steering box and arm, as well as a grease of the propeller shaft unions, and a clean of the underside. The exhaust was replaced in 2020, along with a full service of diff oils, gearbox oils, engine oils and filters etc.

During current ownership, the car’s exterior has been comprehensively refurbished, which included removing all the doors and door cards, and respraying the inner shuts in the original satin black finish. The rubbers, grilles, bumper caps, scuttle, and vents were re-textured and refinished in satin black, and the bumpers were rubbed down, rust treated and resprayed. The wheel arches were rust proofed and resprayed, and the bodywork (including the entire roof) was resprayed in its factory colour with new stickers and a new coach line added. The wheels were refurbished in the body colour with the correct silver lip, and fitted with new polished billet wheel nuts before being refitted with highly commended BF Goodrich All Terrain Tyres in period correct size.

This Range Rover Classic Vogue SE is a fine example of the legendary 4x4, presented in impressive cosmetic condition following a recent body refurbishment and respray in rarely seen cypress green. Benefitting from the refreshed exterior and a highly original and well-preserved interior, this handsome example of the modern classic would make a fine mode of ‘go anywhere’ transport, as well as a wonderful addition to any collection.

As with all of our vehicles, we have a digital folder available on request containing more images, walkaround videos, pictures of the underside and scans of the service history. The car can be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
