2000 Ferrari 360 Challenge - Road Registered

It’s a childhood dream to win in red, and for most, it’s a dream that will never be realised. Unless you deem unlocking licences on Gran Turismo an extension of reality. However, for the select few with an abnormally large chunk of change, burning a hole in their bank account, Maranello have an option.

The Ferrari Challenge” – launched in the early 1990s, it was an opportunity for 348 Challenge owners to compete in a spec racing series. The championship subsequently grew, out of Europe, into the US and subsequently across the globe, and today, there have been 9 unique homologated Ferrari Challenge racing cars.

The first of those cars to be a true racecar, though, was the 360. The 348 and F355 that preceded it were converted road cars, often with kits fitted by dealers. The 360, however, was built in-house, and they were all sold on the proviso that their owners would enter the Ferrari Challenge. Just a few hundred were built, and of those cars, it’s believed that just three have been converted into road-legal track weapons, and this is one of them.

It was purchased new in 2000 by Scottish oil exec and renowned Ferrari collector and racer, Larry Kinch. Mr Kinch competed in the car successfully, across 12 rounds of the Ferrari Challenge throughout 2000 and 2001. In fact, the car has remained in active motorsport competition for years, across the UK and Europe.

However, its current owner decided to expand its use case. Converting it to road-legal specification would turn it from trailer queen to arrive and drive track day dominator. The dream was realised in 2019, after a £30,000 conversion, when it was registered for us on UK roads.

You don’t need a double-take to realise this car is a race car that happens to have number plates and indicators, it even looks like it's going fast. Despite wearing numerous liveries throughout its life, it retains its original base shade of Rosso Corsa.

Whilst the car would’ve originally shared more of the standard car’s styling, it has throughout its life been upgraded using components far more akin to those used on the N-GT spec cars as tuned by Michelotto. An enormous rear wing, huge bumper intakes, rear diffuser and front splitter all add to the car’s aerodynamic efficiency and its presence on track. It sits on genuine BBS challenge alloys, which wear road-legal Yokohama semi-slick tyres.

The interior is bare, stripped out and utterly spectacular. Red cloth carbon-kevlar OMP bucket seats, a multi-point rollcage and a small 3-spoke racing steering wheel. The race car was 120kg lighter than the road car on which it was based, and that was primarily achieved by removing any creature comforts. That does mean you’ll need to use the sliding polycarbonate windows to collect your McNuggets on the way back from your track day.

Despite being an out-and-out racer, the Challenge made do with a standard engine. Sealed units were supplied from the factory to ensure fair racing; however, in 2016, the engine was replaced by Amari Supercars with an owner-supplied standard engine. Whilst the rev limit was upped, there was little change from the road car, but thanks to the impressive weight savings, the racecar was significantly faster.

Modifications were made to the chassis, too; the standard car’s suspension system was replaced with Boge-sourced race dampers and springs, which resulted in a 20% increase in stiffness. To capitalise on this, Ferrari used a short-ratio quick steering rack for nimble cornering.

The car has been maintained meticulously throughout its life, with records tracing all the way back to 2000. In more recent times, the car has been maintained by specialists like RPE. December 2025 saw the car visit Prestige Autoworks for an extensive pre-sale going over; the work included replacing all four dampers with new Nitron items, replacing the rear brakes with genuine competition items, timing belts replaced with genuine Ferrari items, a full-service and a fresh MOT.

As with all our vehicles, an entire digital folder is available upon request and contains more images, walk-around videos, and scans of the service history. The car can also be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
