aluminium pergolas lately
Hey everyone! I’ve been researching aluminium pergolas lately because I want to upgrade my patio space before summer really kicks in. One thing I can’t decide on is whether to go for an electric or manual control system for the louvres. Electric seems super convenient but I worry about future maintenance and cost. Manual is simpler but maybe a hassle to adjust all the time. Has anyone here made this choice recently? What swayed you?

I was literally in the same position last year! I ended up going with an electric pergola after weeks of back-and-forth. For me, it came down to convenience — I’ve got a west-facing garden and the sun can be brutal in the afternoon. Being able to tilt the louvres remotely (or even schedule them) is a game-changer. I do get your point about maintenance, but honestly, the systems these days are pretty solid. I got mine from here: https://closethedeal.co.uk/catalogs/aluminium-pergola-gazebo — they had both options, and the customer service helped me break it all down. One tip: make sure the wiring is weather-protected if you go electric. A friend of mine had issues after a storm because his installer didn’t seal everything properly. Also, think about power access — if your pergola will be far from your house, that might add to the cost. But honestly, I use mine every single day now and have no regrets!
