1955 Ford Thunderbird

Milegage: 44,296

We are proud to present the 1955 Ford Thunderbird, 2 Door Convertible. A truly exceptional vehicle that goes beyond the ordinary, rich in American history. It epitomises the concept of a "personal car of distinction," as the original accompanying brochure so simply writes.

Originally acquired upon registration in May 1955 from the rolling hills of Los Angeles, California; the place of glamour and opportunity. This vehicle was loved and cherished by a motor engineer, used as a daily driver upon high days and holidays. Following the original owner's passing, a sibling inherited the car, harbouring an intense fondness for it. Braving even the harshest winters, equipping the Thunderbird with snow tyres. It was eventually placed in storage in ’72 and remained in state. Some twenty years later it was uncovered, tucked away in the owner's barn. Despite its weathered appearance, it was the immense potential this Ford possessed that was recognised... Over the course of a decade, relentless dedication by a well-established automotive garage culminated in the completion of this automotive masterpiece in 2002. Every detail, from the lustrous black lacquer paint to the electrical system, adhering faithfully to the period specifications. The Thunderbird heart beats with the original, numbers matching 292 Ford V8 engine, while the transmission remains the authentic Ford-O-Matic. Each component of the vehicle underwent a meticulous stainless steel, nut and bolt restoration process, either returning it to its factory state or replacing it entirely.

Since its restoration, this car has proudly amassed an impressive collection of trophies and accolades from countless shows, including multiple Best of Show awards and a first-place honour at the renowned Rhinebeck Antique Auto Show in New York. Naturally, as the restoration was completed 21 years ago, the car is no longer box fresh but the restoration work has stood the test of time and the car still today presents in very good condition throughout.

This fine example of Ford manufacturing shows the essence of 1950s America. Every detail from the luxurious vinyl upholstery to the chrome accents. Retro sun-dim glass and stylish white wall tires that add a touch of swagger. As it will soon gracefully depart from the Brentford Riveria, we can't help but feel a tinge of sadness bidding farewell to such a remarkable car. A true gem that perfectly represents a golden era of American automotive design.

As with all of our vehicles, we have a digital folder available on request containing more images, walk-around videos, pictures of the underside and scans of the service history. The car can be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
