1992 Rover Mini Mayfair 1380 cc
Whilst it’s true that any properly set up classic Mini is a hoot to drive, a tuned hot Mini with all the right toys is something altogether more impressive.
This 1992 Rover Mini Mayfair may have started out with a humble 998cc engine, but now proudly sports a riotous 1380cc offset bore gem with the following specifications:
Evolution lightweight 73.5mm pistons
Forged EN40B nitride coated crankshaft
AC Dodd fast road/race cylinder head, skimmed with enlarged ports
ARP fasteners throughout
Kent 286 cam kit
Cometic MLS head gasket kit
Aldon performance distributor
This power is managed through a X-Pin Limited-slip differential and Orange pressure plate clutch, with the engine setup and tune done by Rawspeed Engineering, Plymouth. This glorious engine was installed at an original odometer reading of 68,360 miles with the car currently showing 72,000 miles. The oil has been changed every 2,500 miles using only the best, Valvoline VR-1 Racing 20w50.
Aside from the Revolution alloy wheels and upgraded steering wheel, there is no real indication of the power hidden in this classic Mini. The car has been left in stock condition otherwise. Unfortunately the car was recorded CAT C insurance write off in 2005 (no evidence today of any damage) and there are a few small bubbles on the paint but no real cause for concern etc.
As we have learnt first-hand over the years, building a proper hot Mini is not cheap and not easy but absolutely worth it. For those wishing to get straight to the fun, this Mayfair ‘sleeper’ is a perfect chance to skip the time and expense and get right to driving.
In 2021, the car was subject to further extensive works to upgrade the vehicle's handling. Close to £3,000 was spent with Rally Prep & Classic in Cornwall who rebuilt both the front and rear subframes, fitting dozens of new parts including upgraded bushes and lowered Gaz dampers. In 2022, the Mini received a further £1,200 worth of work at Upton Noble Garage in Somerset. The work included a new carburettor, new heater motor and lower steering column. All of these works (and more!) are documented in the car's history file.
The car has only had 6 owners from new. It is MOT'd until October 2023. As with all of our vehicles, we have a digital folder available on request containing more images, walkaround videos, pictures of the underside and scans of the service history. The car can be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
