2018 Mercedes E220d AMG Line Premium
Mercedes has been building an “E-Class” of sorts since the mid-1950s, but the naming convention itself didn’t arrive until 1993 when the suffix E was adopted as the prefix for the facelifted W124 chassis, hence why you can sometimes spot a 500E or an E500.
The E-Class would become a titan of its class, the benchmark for all others. Mercedes offered an E-class in various body styles throughout its continued production run, from the 7-seater estate to a two-door convertible. A firm favourite with Mercedes punters, for its fifth-generation E-Class W213 chassis, Mercedes would continue to offer the E-Class as a coupe.
This particular car is a 2018 E220d Coupe, first registered in June of 2018. Externally, this generation of E-Class returns Mercedes to an extremely pretty design language that was somewhat lost in previous generations in favour of bold sharp lines, instead long flowing body lines offer a sleek look that manages to be flashy and understated at the same time.
The exterior is finished in a Deep Metallic Black, that helps to accentuate those aforementioned classy body lines. The flake in the paintwork reflects nicely in the sun and is complimented by a classy amount of brushed aluminium-style trim. Whilst the paintwork presents extremely well, there are a handful of age-related marks, which are to be expected.
At the front, there are Xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights and Mercedes’ trademark large three-pointed star emblem, an imposing look. The wheels are 19” two-tone multi-spoke AMG items wrapped in Mercedes OE Pirelli tyres, there are a handful of curb marks on the wheels but nothing that detracts from the overall appearance.
The interior is where things get even better, settling into probably the most stylish modern car interior on the market. You’re greeted by a combined set up of traditional gauges combined with a widescreen infotainment system, and a multi-function leather steering wheel. All of the modern car accoutrements are there, but Merc chose to retain a touch of classic style with an analogue clock. The aluminium accidents on the switch gear and dash vents are contrasted by a dark satin wood trim set.
The half-leather, half-Alcantara seats are heated and electrically adjusted with a memory function. The black fabrics are stitched with a contrasting white thread, and despite the black headliner, the cabin is light and bright thanks to a glass panoramic roof.
Under the bonnet is a 2. 0L turbo-diesel power plant, that is ULEZ compliant. It produces around 190bhp and around 400nm of torque. It offers great refinement, power and driveability whilst also providing excellent fuel economy.
The car has covered just 53, 782 miles and comes with a service history directly from Mercedes's main dealers:
- 16/ 07/ 2019 - Service A - 34, 230 miles - Mercedes-Benz Inchape North West
- 06/ 08/ 2022 - Service B - 36, 731 miles - Mercedes-Benz South Ltd
- 30/ 06/ 2023 - Service A - 51, 115 miles - Mercedes-Benz South Ltd
The E-Class is arguably one of the most recognisable luxury cars in the world, holding a reputation for class, style and durability that is second to none. This fifth generation of E also benefits from particularly good looks that make it as at home in the streets of Mayfair as it is mile munching on a motorway. Thanks to the diesel power plant, this one won’t cost you a fortune to run either.
As with all our vehicles, a full digital folder is available on request containing more images, walk-around videos, and scans of the service history. The car can also be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
